Tips to get the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Kill Devil Hills rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking the perfect Kill Devil Hills rental:
- First and foremost, have your family choose vacation dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Barefoot Joy: Short Walk to Beach\/Pier
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is best for your family.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
