Tips and Tricks to get the very best Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the largest rental home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Begin by choosing vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Dog-Friendly has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Considerations for your stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
