Tricks and tips to get the best Kill Devil Hills vacation property experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Kill Devil Hills area. Book your Kill Devil Hills vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing the perfect rental home:
- Select dates and spending budget.
- 1105 ft from the beach
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Have a great stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
