Tips to get the very best Kill Devil Hills vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- To find the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the best vacation home in the Kill Devil Hills area:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Walk to the beach- Sleeps 14 has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your family.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
Know before you go:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
