The Space

**We do ask that all potential guests read the entire description and home rules before requesting to book. No family pets, no exceptions.**

"The Little House" as we affectionately call it, is a unique OBX bungalow and property which has been in our family since the 70's. This adorable bungalow is the ideal get-away for 1-4 people. The space is ideal for a couple or modest family. It is a outstanding SOUNDSIDE property, with an ORIGINAL Outer Banks bungalow located on it that is rustic in nature. It's a appealing and cozy place to savor an Outer Banks experience! The bungalow sits off Colington Road, a well traveled two lane secondary road and is ONLY 1.5 MILES TO THE BEACH! The backyard backs up to the Albemarle sound and is shaded by striking Southern Live Oak trees. It is the ideal spot to savor your morning coffee, read a book, or appreciate the wildlife of the Outer Banks. In the morning, you can often be greeted by herons on the dock or a family of ducks swimming by. While kayaking, you'll likely see fish swirling or an otter on the edge of the marsh. The evening sun setting provides a magnificent palate of colors to enjoy while kayaking or sitting on the dock. The water is shallow, but ideal for kayaking, or crabbing. Crab pots and kayaks are supplied! NO DIVING OR SWIMMING OFF OF DOCK.

The kitchen is completely equipped with a stove, microwave, full size refrigerator, coffee maker, (and French press), and toaster. No dishwasher. Dishes, silverware, glassware, pots and pans also supplied. Also supplied are paper towels, dish soap, a couple trash bags, coffee, tea, sugar, S & P and some spices.

The living space has a full couch and appreciate seat, along with a enormous TV with Roku for you to log into your favorite streaming services (no cable). WIFI and charging station available.

Two bedrooms offer one queen size bed and two twin. One set of linens supplied for each bed, along with towels, pillows, and closet area with hangers. The bathroom has a stand up shower (no tub) with soap, shampoo and body wash available.

The sizable outside shower is ideal after a day at the beach, keeping sand outside where it belongs. There is a huge picnic table and outdoor seating. In the shed you'll find beach chairs, umbrella, life jackets for kayaks, and a cooler for bait. Please do not put bait in the refrigerator.

You’ll find local favorite eateries, The Colington Cafe and Saltbox, close by. A family owned and operated fresh seafood market for 50 years, Billy's Seafood, is just a bit further down the road. Get your fresh or steamed seafood to go!

We adore our family bungalow, it's a great "little home" yet is not ideal and may not be for everybody. If you are looking for a unique property and bungalow, a local experience, or a place to relax with friends and adored ones, then our bungalow fits the bill! We hope you enjoy The Little House!

Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • To get the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. The Little House~Cozy Cottage with Water Access~Private Dock~Kayak~Crab~Relax has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. Otherwise, call the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is best for your vacation group.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.

During your stay:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
