Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation rental experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Kill Devil Hills area. Reserve your Kill Devil Hills rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Sand Life - Pelican's Northern Nest -Pet Friendly! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
