Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To find the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guides which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the perfect rental home:
- Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. SW17 Seawalk Seventeen * Semi-Oceanfront has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your family.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More tips for your stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
