Strategies to get the optimal vacation property experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- To get the best value, try shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Siren Sound a charming OBX beach cottage in the perfect beach location has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills destination you simply love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
