Tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Kill Devil Hills trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing and booking the bestrental home:
- First, have your family select the best dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. OBX~Beach~Sunsets~Bike Path~Mini Golf~Lighthouses~Shops~Walking Distance~Sunrise has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is best for your family.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the rental manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
