Booking the best vacation rental experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.
How to choose the perfect vacation rental:
- Start by having your group decide on dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Shore house made for socializing and family. Equally between the beach and bay! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
