Tips to get the perfect rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some owners offer special rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Selecting the perfect vacation home in the Kill Devil Hills area:

  • First and foremost, have your family choose dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. 1 block from the Sound! Close to the Beach. Linens and Bath Towels included! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or might be applied to your contract.
  • If there's a certain Kill Devil Hills destination you are enamored with, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
