How to find the best rental experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Kill Devil Hills restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to pick the perfect vacation home in Kill Devil Hills:
- Start by selecting your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 1 block from the Sound! Close to the Beach. Linens and Bath Towels included! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
