Rental home booking tips:
When to book & When to go:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Semi-Soundfront on Bay Drive - Whole Home, Large Yard and Decks! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
