This Carolina Classic Beach Cottage is what a stay on the Outer Banks is all about. Designed for modest families wanting to focus on time together appreciating the beach which is merely steps away. SCC4 is a freshly constructed bungalow (finished September 2022) that is merely steps to the beach.
The Sea Captain's Cottages consist of four 2 bedroom cottages that sit on the oceanfront in Kill Devil Hills.
SCC4 was constructed up high so please note that the staircase is rather tall. Underneath the bungalow is parking as well as a studio Apartement with a full time resident.
Bed sheets and bath towels as well as 2 beach chairs are supplied
The private walkway to the beach is for all guests of The Sea Captain's Cottages. Please note that a flight of stairs must be climbed in order to access the beach and the dune is a bit on the steep side. Perfectly fine for most, but those with knee problems or elderly persons may find it somewhat difficult.
Located on the Oceanfront in Kill Devil Hills, the Sea Captains Cottage accepts you to literally walk out your front door to the beach. No packing up the car with gear and driving around looking for beach access parking. The bungalow is close to shopping, 2 grocery stores, cozy coffee stores and many fabulous Outer Banks eateries.
You will need a car. Uber and Lyft services are available on the Outer Banks all year.
Keyless entry makes checking in simple for our guests. Each bungalow is included one (1) parking space, no exceptions.
Please note a full time resident lives in the lower level Apartement therefore we ask that you be mindful of noise levels after 11:00 pm.

Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer time is high season in Kill Devil Hills. To find the most suitable rental home within your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Kill Devil Hills attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose the perfect rental home in the Kill Devil Hills area:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Sea Captain's Cottage 4; Oceanfront Cottage Court has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine which bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
