Just down the road from the bungalow, one each way is the Saltbox Cafe to the left and the Colington Cafe to the right, two well known favorite eateries of the area.

You will have everything you need for an superb stay here on the Outer Banks!

This bungalow belonged to my grandmother, her name was Ruby.
It has been refreshed in 2023 with a completely new kitchen and bathroom, fresh paint and refinished hard wood and tile floors throughout.
The water for the bungalow is a deep well and with well water there is sometimes a bit of an odor and there can be some color also. It's all completely normal for the area, the local water treatment company says the well water on this property has some of the most balanced pH and highest mineral count they've seen on the Outer Banks so we've decided to keep the well water for now.

Keeping it simple at this centrally located milepost 8 Outer Banks bungalow.

Located off the beaten path in Colington in a very peaceful neighborhood.

This bungalow is very close by the Blue Crab Tavern. You may hear some music and people having a good time over there . "The Crab" as we call it usually quiets down by 11pm, even on evenings when they have bands playing out back on the dock.
Wanna see a beautiful sunset or savor a cold drink while sitting out on the dock? Walk on over and meet the owner Argie, this year is her 31st year in business!

Strategies to get the best vacation rental experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and choose a perfect Kill Devil Hills rental home:

  • Start by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Ruby's OBX Retreat is only 1 mile from the beach and has a beautiful sound view has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a certain Kill Devil Hills attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
