Our top Vacation rental tips:
When to visit & When to reserve a Kill Devil Hills rental home:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to select the perfect vacation rental in the Kill Devil Hills area:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to the best dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. OBX Vacation Home Convenient To Everything! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is right for your group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Know before you go:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
