Tips and Tricks for getting the best Kill Devil Hills vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Kill Devil Hills area. Book your Kill Devil Hills vacation home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer special rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to date ranges and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Oceanside 2 Bedroom Condo at Golden Strand A1 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. Otherwise, email the property management company before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your trip.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the property manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to propel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
