Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Kill Devil Hills area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Make a plan and pick yourrental home:
- First, have your family agree to trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. First Flight Retreat 215: Oceanfront condo, ocean views, and walkway to beach. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your family.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. text the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
