Tips to get the best Kill Devil Hills vacation rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning, picking, and booking the bestrental:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Lotus House at Kitty Hawk Shores, Semi-Oceanfront 7 Bedroom Home has 7 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
