Tips to get the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the perfect vacation rental:
- Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Greystone II
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your family.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
Know before you go:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
