Tricks and tips for getting the perfect rental experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. Reserve your Kill Devil Hills vacation in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • To start, have your group commit to date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Enjoy ocean views from the oversized deck has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills destination you love, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Have a great stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the host right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
