Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your Kill Devil Hills rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose and book a perfect Kill Devil Hills rental home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Dog-friendly waterfront getaway with fast WiFi, central A\/C, & a jet ski launch has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is right for your group.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's a certain Kill Devil Hills beach you crave, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- During arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
