Tips for getting the best Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a rental home:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the most suitable rental home within budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Shore Beats Work! (2040 Sq ft) has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a specific Kill Devil Hills attraction you are crazy about, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- During arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
