Tips and Tricks to get the best Kill Devil Hills rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Reserve your rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Choosing the perfect rental home:
- First, have your family agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. GaGa's Getaway: Quiet location, dog-Friendly, fire pit, 3-night min. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's a specific Kill Devil Hills beach you are enamored with, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
During your stay:
- Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the host immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
