Getting the best Kill Devil Hills vacation rental experience:
Get the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing the perfect vacation home:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Cozy 2-bedroom condo, great location, dogs welcome! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. message the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
