Tips to get the best rental experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- Summertime is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. Booking your Kill Devil Hills vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing and booking the rightvacation home:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Coasties Ocean Breeze: Ocean Views
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If not, contact the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is optimal for your group.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or might be applied to your contract.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
