While cozy, at just under 700 square feet, the Avalon Beach Bungalow is one of the last remaining original Bungalows in our OBX housing stock. The bungalow is in an amazing location near eateries, shopping, and about a half block walk to the beach, Avalon Fishing Pier and most OBX activities. The place was re-designed in 2017 with an open flow to provide our guests a modern coastal living experience all while maintaining its original 1950's bungalow appeal. Although, we continue to do improvements every year!
The space is ideal for:
•Couples
•Modest active families or groups of friends
•4 people comfortably, 5 people if ya'll get along well
Guest Favorites:
From afternoon naps swaying in our hammocks in the front breezeway or chilling out and grilling in the backyard, here’s what our guests say they adored:
•The location - a short walk to the pier and beach
•Grilling and a well-supplied kitchen
•Swaying in the hammocks in the front breezeway
•Dog Friendly (See Guidelines Below)
•A family friendly and safe neighborhood
The kitchen features a butcher's block counter top, tile backsplash and the essential cooking tools for the chef of the group. At the right time and on the right days you can entirely open up the french doors to connect the living space directly to the covered porch where you can rest and relax in the hammocks.
We have one bathroom inside - no tub - that features and a modest glass-enclosed shower and a multi-use shower head. Most of our guests favorite place to shower is outside in the vintage masonry enclosed outdoor shower. This enclosure is very private and comes with a "rain shower" head that feels very invigorating on a hot summer days. In the winter months our guest can appreciate the warmth of the modest wood burning stove that makes this time of year to visit more special!
Housekeeping Notes:
To us, a very clean bungalow is of the utmost importance for our guests upon arrival. In fact, our bungalows have always had very high cleanliness standards and though cleaning + inspection process. Recently, we have taken our cleaning process to the next level by implementing recommended CDC guidelines. Between each guest stay our beach bungalows are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized with EPA approved disinfectants on surfaces and common touch points.
Pet Friendly Guidelines:

• Some breeds may not be allowed due to insurance requirements
• When reserving "add pet" to number of guests and fee will be added to reservation, otherwise the pet fee will be requested separately after the reservation is confirmed.

Property & Preference Disclaimer:
We adore our OBX bungalow, its a great home yet, like most older homes it is not ideal, has some quirks and is certainly not for a fit every group. Our primary objective is to ensure the safety and comfort of our guests, so we hope you understand, if a significant weather event is forecasted during a reservation there may be an impact. We have found many guest visitors to the Outer Banks consider purchasing vacation rental travel insurance as additional protection and tranquility of mind.
We respect that folks have different preferences and worldviews. If you're looking for a unique place and local experience in a great beach town to relax, spend time with appreciated ones, chill out, prepare and rest your head after the beach then the bungalow checks all the boxes. If your seeking a ideal, flawless home or are super high maintenance, this is not the place for you.
Book today to ensure your reservation, before another guest does! :)

Tips and Tricks to get the best Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Kill Devil Hills trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting the perfect rental home in Kill Devil Hills:
- Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Steps to Beach & Avalon Pier: The Original 1950's Avalon Beach Bungalow has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your family.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the host immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
