Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer time is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. Reserve your rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your group select date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. 5135 The Anchor * Oceanfront * Amazing Ocean Views has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
Advice for a great stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Call the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
