Tips to get the best Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:
When to reserve a Kill Devil Hills rental home & When to go:
- To get the best value, shift your family's Kill Devil Hills vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your search:
- First, have your group decide on dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Sand Life - Pelican's Upper Deck! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. Otherwise, call the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
