Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation rental experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- Summertime is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Kill Devil Hills restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting and booking the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation home:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. FFR304 Flight Club by First Flight Rentals has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- If there's an individual Kill Devil Hills attraction you are crazy about, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
