Tips to get the perfect Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Summer months are high season in Kill Devil Hills. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your group decide on vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Starboard semi-oceanfront duplex 100 feet from the beach, with no road to cross! has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your invoice.
- If there's an individual Kill Devil Hills destination you long to visit, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
More considerations:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. message the rental manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
