3 MINUTE WALK TO THE BEACH!! Our home is named “PADI-SHACK” after the Professional Association of Diving Instructors...the owners are avid scuba divers and we appreciate to share our experiences with our guests. Our guests often like to go out to the shipwreck with us and we savor being "tour guides". And, we have MANY friends that we have acquired over the years who are here for enormous parts of the summer. You'll be welcomed into the "family"....and YOU WILL LOVE IT.
Padi-Shack has three bedrooms, two baths, and a screened in porch just off the kitchen. There are ocean vistas from the upper decks, and there is a striking ground level deck with patio furnishings and an OBX style swing. The owners don’t live far away and we will do anything we can to make this your best vacation EVER!
PLEASE NOTE...we do not supply linens or paper products. A full week (Saturday to Saturday) is required during prime time rental periods. Off season check-ins and visits are
very flexible, requiring a minimum of only 2 nights!

Strategies for getting the best vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose a perfectrental home:
- First, have your group select dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Snorkel A Shipwreck...Two Ships Are On The Bottom Just Off The Beach!! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
