Rental booking tips:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- To book the best rental for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Kill Devil Hills restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by having your family choose dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Seaside Breeze - 4BR 3BA 5 min. Walk to Beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- To make sure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. text the property manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
