Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation home experience:
Get the best rental value:
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. To get the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to date ranges and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Paige's Place at the beach Early Check -ins! Fido Friendly has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your group.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
