Rental home tips and tricks:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. beachbox in the heart of everything has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .

More tips for your visit:

  • Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
