When to go & When to book:
- The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- To find the largest rental for your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Kill Devil Hills restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local tours and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select vacation week and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. beachbox in the heart of everything has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review.
