Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Summer months are high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To book the largest rental within budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Kill Devil Hills attractions.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the best rental in the Kill Devil Hills area:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Serenity At the Beach- No better place to unwind has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills attraction you crave, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. text the host immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
