The Magical Bungalow OBX is an original OBX 'Beach Box' style home, that was re-imagined and modernized by Live Swell Custom Homes in 2019.
The space
Our purpose is to create clean beach homes families dream about!

By listening to guests we have created a familiar, clean & consistent vacation rental home experience.

In doing so, we have eliminated the gamble of poorly maintained, carelessly managed and icky vacation units.

(Please keep in mind, the home is located on a direct beach access with parking, at times it can get full. Most appreciate the feel, others may not.)


Downstairs "Storage Room"-
The space is located on ground level, has a separate entrance and is not as upgraded like the upper level main living area. It was not designed as living space, is primarily used as storage and sleeping is not recommended.

Please note: While refreshed, this is an older original beach home. As a piece of OBX history, that's OK though as it all adds to the appeal and soul of the Magical Bungalow.

Housekeeping Notes:
To us, a very clean bungalow is of the utmost importance for our guests upon arrival. In fact, our bungalows have very high cleanliness standards and a thorough cleaning + inspection process. Between each guest stay our beach bungalows are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized with EPA approved disinfectants on surfaces and common touch points.

Our cleaning process continues to evolve by implementing recommended CDC guidelines. Further, we take additional steps and train cleaners in any new cleaning standards through our “Sparkling Clean” training program.

Pet Friendly Guidelines:
•$25 per nighttime for one dog (one dog max. only)
• Some breeds may not be allowed due to insurance requirements

We appreciate dogs and are happy to have your four legged family members at our bungalows. Just let us know you are bringing your dog and the breed.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire home and property. For those, that savor clean laundry, like us, we have a quality washer + dryer set up in the downstairs storage area.

Other things to note
Check Out Etiquette: We put a lot of time and effort to deliver great stays for our guests. If deliberate damage, disrespect or lack of cleanliness is identified during the check out inspection, the guest of record will be charged costs to compensate our cleaners and ensure the property is ready for incoming guests.

About the Area

Located in Kill Devil Hills, this vacation home is near the beach. Paradise Fun Park and Children at Play Museum are local attractions and those in the mood for shopping can visit Outer Banks Mall and Scarborough Lane Shoppes. Professor Hacker's Lost Treasure Golf and Stop-N-Shop Beach Shop are also worth visiting. Jet skiing and kayaking offer great chances to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with hiking and hunting nearby.

When to go & When to book:

  • Reserve your Kill Devil Hills vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses.   • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
