Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Get the best value:
- Booking in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your search:
- To start, have your family choose date ranges and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Luke’s Retreat has 2 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. Otherwise, call the host before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If there's an individual Kill Devil Hills beach you long to visit, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or applied to your agreement.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
