Our top Rental property booking tips:
When to reserve a Kill Devil Hills rental home & When to go:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. Reserve your Kill Devil Hills rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by having your family decide on the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Luke’s Retreat has 2 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If not, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
