Tips for getting the best Kill Devil Hills vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best rental for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Kill Devil Hills attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting and booking the bestrental home:
- Select dates and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Entire Home less than a mile from the beach and a public boat ramp! Remodel 2021 has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If not, reach out to the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the property manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
