Spend your mornings splashing in the ocean waves, your afternoons taking in the vistas on the roof deck, and your evenings unwinding in the ultra-private hot tub beneath a sky full of stars. Savor a peaceful and peaceful neighborhood location, with direct access to a running/walking/cycling pathway along Bay Drive - a amazing way to begin or end vacation days. You can let your dog out in the fenced yard and find a calming seat on the patio, the mid-level deck, or the rooftop crow's nest, furnished with an outdoor dining table.

Inside, the main living space is on the second floor, offering central air conditioning and plentiful seating, while a sunroom is the ultimate space for curling up with a good book or sipping drinks with friends. Get dinner going in the open kitchen with stainless steel appliances (including a French-door refrigerator and a gas range) and set the dining room table. The evening hours are best spent watching movies on the sectional in the living room or retreating downstairs to the den for a foosball tournament.

Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Get the best rental value:

  • Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local shops and restaurants.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly home on the soundside - private hot tub, crow's nest & YMCA access has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is best for your family.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Have a great stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
