Take a step back in time and stay at this classic Outer Banks bungalow - constructed in 1947! It has been newly modernized uncovering original wood floors while adding a touch of today's style for comfort. The home accommodates 10 people which includes 5 full bedrooms with original wood walls and a bit of ocean view from the upstairs bedrooms windows. The living room is extremely comfortable with a giant TV with roku streaming. There is an all season/sunroom off of the living area that hosts a second den and TV with a roku and a Ninendo 64 with all the classic games. On the other side of the sunroom is a 2-person pac-man (and other arcade games) machine and a cute eat-in bar seating with a pass-thru to the kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with ample cabinets completely outfitted with everything you need and all new stainless appliances, including a new deep 50/50 stainless sink. The dining room is light and airy with a handsome table that seats 10. There is a mud room off of the kitchen with a full washer and dryer and a bench with hooks above for towels. The back door will lead you to a fenced-in yard for privacy and your furry friends - including outdoor seating, a gas grille, and cornhole boards. The real draw of the property is the beach access! Step out on the front porch and see the sand directly across the street. Literally steps away from putting your feet in the Atlantic! In addition to that, there are many things to walk to: Stop n Shop Deli, Pirate's Souveniers, and Diary Queen. A very short drive to unlimited eateries and stores, this home is in a prime location! If you really want to have a classic OBX vacation, come stay at Oregon's Corner! You won't be in another mini-mansion, you will be in a rare, timeless beach bungalow sure to make the best memories! Our top Kill Devil Hills vacation rental tips:
Getting the best rental value:
- To find the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Kill Devil Hills attractions.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the perfect rental in the Kill Devil Hills area:
- To start, have your family commit to trip dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 1947 OBX Original - Newly Remodeled and directly across from the beach access! has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your agreement.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
