SEA LA VIE: The home has three floors, a humongous backyard, is well supplied, offers short stays year round, and includes all linens. The central location is close to everything the OBX has to offer.
CONVENIENT LOCATION:
Located between the ocean and sound, the home is less than 1/2 mile to water in either direction. On one side of our street is the beach access with Avalon Pier across from Awful Authur’s seafood restaurant. On the other side of our street is the sound with a neighborhood dock you can fish from. A bicycle trail goes to the Food Lion / Duck Donuts shopping center on 3rd Street without leaving the neighborhood. Go out at the light on 5th to the Target, Wawa, or Jolly Rogers Restaurant, along with another beach access with parking. More public complimentary access beach tons are located on 2nd and 1st streets.
GREAT TOWN:
Kill Devil Hills is right in the middle of the Outer Banks, so go right to get to the fishing marina at Oregon Inlet, or left to see the wild horses in Corolla, with lighthouses in both directions. Putt putt, movies, fishing, shopping, dining and live music with Ubers only mins. away year round. If you like being near the action but with space to spread out when you get back to the home, Sea La Vie will be a great option for you!
LINENS PROVIDED:
All sheets, comforters, and bath towels are supplied for each guest. No need to bring your own linens, the beds are made with newly laundered sheets before your arrival.
PAYMENT TERMS: To reserve the home, 25% is due at booking, with the balance due 30 days before check in.
INSURANCE: The $59 insurance offered through Vacation Rental By Owner is required for each stay. It protects for things like hurricane evacuations, and covers repairs on anything that breaks or stops working, with no out of pocket expenses.
DISCOUNTS: We do give a discount to anyone who books a full week in the off season (Oct-March), or to those serving in the military (our son is in the Air Force), and to our much appreciated repeat guests!
NO FAMILY PETS: Due to allergies, we do not allow family pets. (Please be kind by booking one of the many homes that do allow pets, since trying to sneak one in will result in immediate eviction without refund).
SECURITY CAMERAS: There are two outward facing cameras covering each exterior door to the home and carport / driveway.
NEARBY POOL / GYM: You can purchase daily or weekly passes to the local YMCA to use their exercise equipment or indoor and outdoor pools. https://www.ymcashr.org/guest-policy-outer-banks-family-ymca
BEACH DRIVING: 4 wheel drive cars with aired down tires are allowed to drive on the beach as follows...
1) In the off season right by our home in Kill Devil Hills with a permit https://www.kdhnc.com/997/Beach
2) Year round on Hatteras beaches (great fishing) with a permit https://www.nps.gov/caha/planyourvisit/permitsandreservations.htm#ORV
3) Year round in Corolla (where the wild ponies are) with a permit https://www.visitcurrituck.com/visitor-info/beach-driving-tips

Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the largest rental within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Updated, roomy 4BR house. Sleeps 10. Central location. Short stays. Free linens has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your contract.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
