Tricks and tips to get the very best rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many property management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing the best rental in the Kill Devil Hills area:

  • Start by having your group agree to vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. CH207- Spectacular Soundfront, 3 BRs, Private Dock, Comm Pool, Tennis\/Marina. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .

More considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
