Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental value:
- To get the best value, try shifting your family's Kill Devil Hills vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking the best Kill Devil Hills vacation home:
- Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Sea-Eye-Eh?: Oceanfront
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
More considerations:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
