Our top Kill Devil Hills vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Getting the best value:
- To book the most suitable rental within your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
How to select the perfect rental home:
- To start, have your group select trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Sandcastles has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, email the property owner before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
More considerations:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
