Finding the best Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:

When to book a Kill Devil Hills rental & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Finding the best rental home:

  • Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Sandcastles has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property owner before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
