Strategies for getting the best Kill Devil Hills rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Kill Devil Hills. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Relax in Privacy - Centrally Located Home has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is suitable for your vacation.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your contract.
- If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills destination you simply love, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- At Check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
