Our top Kill Devil Hills vacation rental booking tips:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Summer time is high season in Kill Devil Hills. Booking in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by having your family decide on date ranges and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oyster Pointe E3: Soundfront
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills destination you love, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
