How to get the best vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- To book the best rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Kill Devil Hills attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and choosing yourrental:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to date ranges and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Oyster Pointe E3: Soundfront
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a specific Kill Devil Hills attraction you are crazy about, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
