Tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- June, July, and August are high season in Kill Devil Hills. Reserve your rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and pick your Kill Devil Hills rental home:
- First, have your family choose a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. KD1920, Upgrades! Pool Heat! Semi OF! Ocean View! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your family.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
Advice for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
