How to get the best Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your Kill Devil Hills rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, picking, and booking the rightrental home:
- First, have your group agree to the best dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. KD1920, Upgrades! Pool Heat! Semi OF! Ocean View! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
