Tricks and tips to get the best rental home experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- Summer is high season in Kill Devil Hills. To find the best vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Kill Devil Hills attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting and booking a perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation home:
- First, have your family decide on vacation dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. KD1920, Upgrades! Pool Heat! Semi OF! Ocean View! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a certain Kill Devil Hills beach you love, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
