Strategies to get the perfect Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer months are high season in Kill Devil Hills. To get the most suitable rental within budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Finding the best vacation rental in the Kill Devil Hills area:
- Start by having your group commit to vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Perfectly situated in KDH; Game room; movies, outdoor fire pit; or chill on deck has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before you book the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
