Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the best rental home in Kill Devil Hills:
- To start, have your group choose the best dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Across from Nags Head Pier - 5 Bedrooms - Pet Friendly has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
