Tips to get the perfect rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in Kill Devil Hills. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your rental search:
- Choose a group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Across from Nags Head Pier - 5 Bedrooms - Pet Friendly has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is right for your group.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your contract.
More considerations:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
