Tips and Tricks for getting the best Kill Devil Hills vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many property management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your rental search:
- Select vacation week and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Historic Cottage Steps from the Beach and Dog Friendly! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your group.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, note any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the host right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
